(Deprecated) Where To Put Your Money If It's Just Sitting In a Checking Account

Yay for HSBC!

Just a thought about switching from one bank to another-- it's best to wait to switch right at the end of the statment period, once interest has been collected from the old bank. This way, you still get that full month's interest.

If you were to switch, say, two weeks into the statement, you'd earn no interest from the old bank for those 2 weeks and the .05 percent or so interest increase wouldn't be enough to make up for this lost interest.

hsbc is also offering a $25 gift card to best buy

Has anyone here had problems with HSBC? I have an ING account but am considering switching to HSBC.

Small print:
Must be a Best Buy cardholder to qualify for gift card offer.

Does anybody know if this means that you must already have a Best Buy credit card to qualify for the $25 gift card? Has anybody tried this that isn't a Best Buy cardholder?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

I called the 800 number at the bottom and they confirmed then "need to be a BB card holder" requirement. No budging either.

Thanks for checking -- really appreciate it!!

Where's Capital One?!

Why does the spoofee list never include capital one? They have worked out great for me, no minimum deposit, and keep up with the other guys rates (currently at 5%). They also have an account with a min 100 balance (in order to keep earning interest) that also includes check writing privs. This would be a great place to keep my money till my mortgage/car payment/etc. automatically draft.

Citi

The Citi e-savings seems pretty decent. The only thing is there's a $9.50 monthly fee plus $0.50 per check if you don't maintain a $1,500 balance or make 2 bill payments per cycle. I don't know about the rest of you, but if i have an average of $150 a month extra, I'm lucky. For the rest, keep to Citi. I've been fine with HSBC. I've never tried Emigrant. ING...eh...

My suggestion to call some of the local banks around where you live, especially if you live in metropolitans... I live in LA and Wilshire State Bank from Korea has some unbelievalbe interest rates... if you would dare to ask for more... remember fellow spoofee users... all interest rates are negotiable especially if you are a repeat customer

Washington Mutuals has a promotional 13 month CD at 5.8% AYR in California... act quick while the offer is still around

I signed up for the HSBC online savings account to get the better rate than ING and pick up the BB Gift Card too. They are now telling me that you had to have been a BB Credit Card holder on or before 6/1/06 to be eligible for the GC offer. The T&Cs on the bottom of the page make no mention of that requirement so I am preparing for a fight. Not that a $25 GC is a lot of money but the fact that the sites T&Cs and what the people at HSBC are telling me are two different things kinda irks me. I'll keep the thread posted with developments.

Wells Fargo student checking/savings account sucks. I get nothing better than Washington Mutual's free checking and my percentage savings in my savings account is .25% Lame losers. I'm switcchhingg... Don't go with Wells Fargo student checking/savings account, go with someone else. Oh and I opened a Money Market account with UFB. We'll see how that goes.

Anyone know if i open Elone will they do a credit enquirt , i dont want another

Citi did 2 when i opened my esavings , very irritating
