Gas Prices to Hit $4 / Gallon

Here is about $2.50/gal, but said to be skyrocketing especially around Memorial Day. Amish country isn't far, maybe I should borrow a horse and buggy.

Last I checked it was running about $2.60 in DC metro area. Could have gone up in the past week due to the holiday though.

I really don't like the chain letter, boycott, etc...emails but this seemed interesting. Theoretically it could work...

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola
executive It came from one of his engineer buddies
who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your
consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to
hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might
go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We
need to take some intelligent, united action.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes
MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain
day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they
knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by
refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience
to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at
about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently
$2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the
oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to
teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we
are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?

Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop
buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if
we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T
purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies
(which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other
companies will have to follow suit. But to have an
impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now,
don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and
I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us
send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and
those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =
3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches
the sixth group of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to
ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you
guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million
and all you have to do is send this to 10 people....
Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am . so trust me on this one.) :-)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends
this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be
contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you
didn't think you and I had that much potential, did
you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message
on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL
THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP
THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Kerry Lyle, Director, Research Coordinator

ya it is basically price gouging...which is illegal. most of the time it is raised on weekends for no other reason than alot of poeple will be on the roads.

if everyone at least in the US came together and decided not to drive for one full day that would probably be enough to drive the demand down enough so prices would lower. too bad our society is completely incapable of such a thing. boycotts work...

There is this website called gasbuddy.com which can tell the prices of gas at gas stations of your area. Beware, other people put in the prices that they saw, so if it says 2.50 at noon, it might be 3.00 at the evening. I would blame it on these american car makers. They make all these stupid rides that many people use. Why does someone need an SUV in New Youk City, unless you are going to ride on central park. Buy Foreign cars, because they have great gas milelage and then we wont waste money on gas.

This does suck.

But all the people who are talking bout buying a hybrid should rethink it if it's just to save money. We're looking to buy a new car and we were considering getting a hybrid. My husband did some number crunching- the hybrid cost about $10,000 more and you only get about 20% back in a tax credit, with gas costing an average of $3 a gallon, you only save approximately $300-400 a year on gas with the hybrid. Do the math... you don't break even for 10+ years.

Plus... when we did other research, it seems that the cost of repairing a hybrid is higher currently (not much of a concern if you have a warranty, but still...). And I talked to one person who was telling me that if you are in an accident with a hybrid, the emergency crew can't rescue you unless they have special equipment & training (can anyone speak to that? spazntwitch? clubby?)

So... it does suck, but we are just going to have to deal with it. However, in Switzerland they've been paying over $2 a LITER for years...

On a happier note... I'm off to my mom's to color Easter Eggs with my daughter & my nieces & nephews. 3 of them are toddlers. This should be interesting!

I like clubby's article, that helps sum it up. You don't really need any other special equipment other than watching out for orange cables, which are the high-voltage wires. So far, we haven't had to rescue anyone from a hybrid, but I don't look forward to it. The car can stay energized for several minutes even after disconnecting the batteries.

"you don't break even for 10+ years.
"

Then you need the battery pack, which costs like $4000.

Don't think that would make any difference. See Snopes. :car:

Too bad after the second round of "30 people" getting the email, it would just be the same people over and over again. Those "3 million" people by the sixth round would really be about 1000 people getting it 300 times each from everyone else.

Makes a good point.

Uh....maybe sometimes we do travel outside the city? BTW....those who live in Manhattan and have SUV's usually leave them garaged and take public transportation (it's quicker and more convenient) while travelling within the city. As far as only buying Foreign Cars...they do make some superior products but that wouldn't be good for our economy :(

** :secret: P.S. I don't think you've ever been to Central Park. They have roadways on which to drive and do not let motor vehicles go 'free wheeling' on the grassy, hilly parts. They would arrest you for that! **

honestly, i dont buy EXXON and MOBIL. mainly shell and chevron, maybe 76..

Thanks for the article link clubby!

That actually makes me feel better about it. It's nice to know that they are not just going to stand back because they can't touch my car ;). When it was described to me before, it sounded like the whole shell of the car could be "electrified" so that if a rescue person even touched a door handle then he'd be toast.

Still not going to get one yet... ;)

I double dip! I go to Bj's in NJ :) (when possible;))
